The Beauty of Colorado Springs

There are so many things we loved about our 2 week stay in Colorado Springs. We can start with our campground. We stayed at the Mountaindale RV resort and cabins. This campground was a top 3 out of 32 stops. It was perfectly situated about 30 minutes from town with a completely natural, mountainous surrounding. We had daily visits from deer and bears (I never saw the bears) and a campground cafe’ that delivered right to your site!

Upon our arrival we were greeted by my sister and brother-in-law who planned this meetup months ago. We were delighted to see the Nilands and their new teardrop camper, Scout. So the activities were many in the campground and in the area.

We started by heading to Royal Gorge Bridge to zip-line. First we took the gondola across the gorge and then we zip lined across the gorge. It was beautifully breathtaking and I’m glad we did it but it took way too long waiting in lines. We all whined a lot, lol. But, until Megan and Eric arrived on Thursday, the 4 of us hiked, brew hopped, shopped, cooked at the campground and enjoyed nightly camp fires and card games. What a great time!

By Thursday, Megan and Eric arrive for Megan’s graduation at the University of Denver scheduled for Saturday. We met the at Garden of the Gods and followed that up with a stop in Manitou Springs to the brewery, of course. Friday was spent twirling through downtown Colorado Springs followed by a big campground steak and veggie dinner.

Saturday was Megan day. She earned her Masters degree in Organizational Leadership-Change Management and we were privileged to witness the moment with her. A long hard 3 year journey finally completed with honors. There was plenty of pride for her accomplishments on Saturday and beyond. Way to go Megan!

Sunday was my 50/13th birthday and we headed to Aurora, right outside of Denver to visit with a childhood friend of Kimberly’s for a sleepover. Kathy and her husband Joe were amazing hosts. We ate and drank and had a great day and night with them. They had a dog named Jolene that Mollie managed to tolerate…she’s such a bully. And the visit with them was just perfect. We even managed to meet up with them again on our last day in Colorado.  I feel a continued lifelong friendship with these two! Thank you Kathy and Joe.

Kimberly spent one full day preparing for her first week at her new job. So she had her hair done and shopped for some business casual clothes and shoes. I happily spent the quiet day with Mollie preparing for our upcoming journey. We both had a perfect day doing regular life things.

Today, Fathers Day, I am writing this blog post from a hotel room in Denver. Kimberly flew out to Raleigh, NC at 0500 this morning and Mollie and I are waiting for Ho Jennifer to arrive for an epic road trip. There is a major change happening in our travels. It’s an important pause in our as we realize that life presents detours that allow us to re-examine what we landed on this earth to do. We are here to serve. We are needed to help someone else right now and so we turn this ship “hard to port” and will land near Hartford, Ct for a while.

I’ll keep blogging so stay tuned.

Enjoy the photos of Colorado Springs.
