Amarillo…our last stop in Texas

Turns out we were Texans for 5 weeks with Amarillo being our final stop. Kimberly traveled for work for the first time in weeks and that sort of set the tone for my week in Amarillo. You see, Mollie is connected to me like a piece of cellophane wrapper that won’t come off your finger. I feed her, walk her, play with her, cook/prepare her food, take her to the vet/groomer 99.999% of the time. Yet, Mollies favorite Mom is Kimberly…go figure.

As a result of all the holiday stuff, Mollies favorite Mom was home with us 7 out of 8 weeks. So when Mollies favorite Mom left on Monday for the week, Mollies gut went into immediate and frequent distress. I will spare you the gory details but I have plenty of them.
To make the traumatizing week even better, we got to learn about Texas wind. Even with so many people telling me about Texas wind, I was not prepared for this. Being in Yolo with constant 35mph winds with gusts to 55mpg was not fun. Mollie and I hated it. She was sick and we had to go out in the winds almost hourly some nights.

By Friday, I hung the white flag. Kimberly used some Bonvoy points after hearing the distress in my voice and got us a room 10 minutes from the campground. I pulled in the slide and scooped up the puppers and checked us in before heading to the Amarillo airport to pick up Mollies favorite Mom.

And, as soon as Mollie saw Kimberly, her gut was just fine.

So, I spent the week caring for Mollie while taking short Amarillo excursions for no longer than an hour.

But guess what? Our favorite neighbors from Balboa Lane, now stationed in Altus, OK, took the 2.5 drive in the Texas winds to come visit us! As usual, seeing familiar faces feels so wonderful on this journey but this even topped that. We hadn’t seen baby Emma since she was just a little amoeba and their parents are 2 of our favorite young couple. We just love them.
Matt and Andi got a hotel room nearby as well and we met up at the Big Texan for Friday dinner and then at an authentic Mexican restaurant the next day for lunch. Even better than that, we started scheming up a Summer meet up at Glacier National Park. That will be an awesome adventure with favorite peeps!

As I write this, we have landed for one month in Albuquerque, New Mexico for a completely different landscape. From Albuquerque we plan to explore a lot of New Mexico since it’s right in the middle of the state. And, a old dear friend that I have known for at least 30 years lives in nearby Santa Fe. We have many days to explore ahead together!
Meanwhile, Mollie girl heads to the groomer today.

  1. Love Monday so I can hear the latest. Glad you survived the sick kid week….they can be the worst. Can’t wait to see the picks from New Mexico. Love to all 3 of you!
