Wells, NV…Gods Country

It’s hard to get from Northwest Nevada to Northeast Nevada…even in just a car. But in a 31’ RV, pulling a car, 2 bikes, with a wife and puppers, is even harder. We traveled up and down the Sierra Mountains and then entered the Rockies in snow. We got to Wells, NV in a freezing wet snowfall on a Sunday in May. Kimberly had to be on a flight 2+ hours away in Salt Lake City and there was more mountains and wintry mix predicted. So instead of driving to Salt Lake the next morning, she packed up her work bags and headed over a few more Rocky Mountains shortly after we arrived at the Welcome Station RV park in Wells, Nevada.

Kimberly spent the week in Philadelphia at a work conference/party and I spent the week in the middle of nowhere without a car, cable tv, WiFi, or too many groceries. I loved it. I got one bar of cell signal so I could stay connected but for the most part, I was disconnected.

The campground is owned by Steve and Nancy and they have enormous pride and gratitude for the land they own. The grounds were meticulous with birds and horses and ranchers and cows and snakes and waterfalls and ponds…with distant snow covered mountains. This place was a postcard at every turn and that’s exactly what I needed for a week.

When Kimberly returned, I spent the next day; the day before we left, showing Kimberly all my discoveries. During our exploration, we came upon a group of working ranchers branding new calves and moving the herd around. Kimberly hated every moment of that experience…I think it was the smell of burning flesh that did it.

Upon arrival we received 2 “muffins of joy” and 2 more for our departure. That’s just the kind of warmth and hospitality I felt the whole week.
